I have
conceptualized an innovative idea which supports the concept of green airfield
environment and reduce of manned vehicles movements over the taxiways and
ground service equipment (GSE) roads within the apron. Take a read of the idea

When
we talk about airports, one of the most advanced terms that goes along with
that is Technology. Airports and technology must be at equal standard always in
order to deliver a remarkable passenger experience. Challengers face at
airports ever increasing day by day due to the demands of passengers and the
rest of the stakeholders. The solutions to cater to those shortfalls are
numerous and various depending on the ground facts at each airport.
With
the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) [Aviation terminology for Drones] in
many businesses, now the usage of its kind is a vital point and impact as a
service improvement strategy. You probably have seen articles or demonstrations
related to progression of transporting packages via drones or immediate medical
assistant on-site via drones with a real-time online operator or maybe your
online food order at your doorstep within minutes by drones instead of the
deliveryman, are some of the latest upcoming trends which will soon to be
roll-out.
Here’s
how this article I explain my brand-new concept of having UAV for maneuvering
through apron as a solution for ever-increasing manned vehicles at busy
airports. Of course, there will be number of question marks in terms of how
this can be implemented, however, we lived in a contemporary world where
artificial intelligent (AI) technology can be the best solution for
most of the cases. The current “follow me” vehicles are used as
a matter of convenience and safety and also it may be unclear when they should
be used – pilots report that, paradoxically, on a complicated aerodrome they are
not generally provided, yet another less complicated airfields their use is
more commonplace. Pilot or ATC can request or arrange follow me vehicle at
any given time due to a temporary risk caused by something like taxiway
maintenance, lighting failure, surface failure or missing signage, etc.
The
“follow me” facility can be provided by the use of UAV adding AI tech such as
pre-programmed taxiway routes & special lighting body to reflect the
signals given by the UAV to flight deck crew. This will be a 100% accurate
concept if we can implement through a series of trial steps and it will be a
genuine replacement for follow-me manned vehicles. Like I mentioned earlier,
this will reduce the ground service equipment (GSE) road congestions and a
great addition to build an environment-friendly airfield as
well.
With
the ever-increasing technological facts in aviation will be a great asset to
the industry development and making sure the customers get a remarkable
experience while on travel. The better use of the UAV will not only be limited
only to “Follow me” concept but also, we can use as a tow-in, tow-out option
when Mototok remote push-back tractor in fully operational.
