This
project was completed back in 2017 as a final for my aviation ground handling
diploma. The option still open to region’s best airport and I wonder still why
this great initiative out of sequence as the technology and customer experience
rising above the sky in aviation. Over the years of time, Dubai International
Airport is gradually increasing up with day-on-day passengers and Dubai
Airports seamlessly working on expanding and enhancing services to their loyal
passengers. Each terminal has an increase in a higher percentage of passengers
compared to each previous month/year. The growth of the business is increasing
in a swift flow and every day counts in total in terms of statistics.
Being
one of the busiest airports in the world, situated on transcontinental air
routes, Dubai is one of several Gulf-based airports to experience prodigious
growth in recent years. Joining passengers who're arriving at Dubai
international airport enjoys the latest & flexible facilities before
proceeding to the check-in counter. Few of the facilities are baggage wrapping
system, baggage weighing system, porter service, and online check-in system, 2D
holographic interface to provide instructions to passengers. All of these
arrangements are in place to accommodate and the convenience of all passengers
departing from Dubai airport. However, the Dubai Airports, yet not considered
one of the facts in terms of revenue-generating which starting up to
wide-spread in major airports by near future. Although it's spread across the https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/invest-passenger-experience-ajith-fernando-1d/UK
& US-based airports to run this as an income-generating process to develop
the infrastructure in order to serve better to the passengers.
General
Objective
The baggage trolleys provided at Dubai Airport can impact on direct revenue to
the company if they are controlled with machine-operated technology, applies
with a minimum fee paid by the passengers.
The
trolleys provided at Dubai international airport made with solid aluminium originally
comes with lightweight under proper standards, easy to manoeuvre clean and
convenient for the users. By looking at the statistics of increase in passenger
factor at Dubai international airport, terminal 1, 2, & 3, this turned out
to be a massive revenue sum at the end of each financial year. Yet no other
Middle Eastern country has implemented this project whereas Dubai Airports can
be the pioneer on this massive subject as always and profit millions of revenue
by having them on a coin-operated system. Let’s take a look at other benefits
of having a machine operated baggage trolley system.
· Improved
quality of service for air travellers.
· Introduction
to smart trolleys which comes in the future.
·
Neatness in trolley line at the entrance to the airport.
· Reduce
workload while arranging the trolleys.
· Capability
of tracking the number of trolleys sold to monitor the cash management by the
machine itself.
· Fitted
with GPS, so airport staff can track them down when they go missing.
· Help
finance, expansion and maintenance of amenities at DXB and
DWC.
Statistic
Data
Being the home for two major airlines,
having served more than 100 other airlines and boast a 5% yearly increase in passenger
load each year, Dubai Airports is undoubtedly a suitable destination to
implement the coin-operated baggage cart system. Out of those departing passengers, we can categorize the majority is
leisure travellers, business travellers & expat residents. Having stick to
a minimum of 3AED per baggage cart is decent and reasonable amount compared to
other countries which already implement the system. It's all part of business
and service enhancement directly impact on the revenue at the end of the day. Below
table explain the estimate revenue income expected if 50% of departing
passengers use the fitted trolley system at Dubai Airports Terminal 1 & 3.
The amounts mention is only for illustration purport only and it can be
differed high or low depending on the passenger requirements. The total facts
and figures based on media released announcements and predictions.

* Calculation based
on the annual passenger growth rate at each terminal (T1 - 4.5%, T3 - 6.5% Approx.)
* AED3 per baggage
trolley.
Terminal 3
Assume that Dubai
airports manage to maintain and increase the passenger growth rate at each
terminal as well as assume that 50 per cent of travellers originating from
Dubai pay a minimum of 3aed and rent a baggage trolley to assist their bags to
the check-in counter, then Dubai airports can expect an approximate revenue of AED 46 Million by the financial year 2020.
The
Future
Every
passenger at the UAE airports will have their own guide, not a customer care
executive, but a smart trolley. Smart trolleys will be the next move in the
near future at the Dubai Airports, which will route passengers through the huge
airports and also guide them to the departure gates. Not just that, passengers
may also be informed about sales or discounts offered by the duty-free shops at
the airport through a soon-to-be-launched app, with the smart trolleys
displaying such offers. The new technology could also guide the airport or
airline staff to the passengers if they’re stranded, or busy shopping at
duty-free and late to board the flight.
According
to a study by aviation think-tank CAPA, UAE, passenger traffic is likely to
increase between 130 and 140 million annually by 2020, which will make UAE the
biggest aviation hub in the world. By the year 2020, the Dubai International
and Al Maktoum International Airport will handle between 98.5 million and 103.5
million passengers. CAPA said Abu Dhabi passenger traffic is likely to grow at
the fastest pace in comparison to other airports in the UAE, expanding at 50
per cent over the next three years, touching 30 million per annum in 2017 and
40 million by 2020.
